Introduction: The 2 AM Problem That Sparked a Revolution
If you've ever cared for an ageing parent, a toddler in potty training, or someone recovering from surgery, you know the 2 AM ritual all too well. The accident happens. You strip the bed. You wrestle with fitted corners. You start a load of laundry. And by the time you're done, you're wide awake and exhausted, and so is the person you're caring for.
That's the exact problem PeelAways set out to solve.
This isn't just another bedding company. PeelAways has built a product that addresses a deeply human need: preserving dignity and sleep quality for both carers and those in their care. And with a growing community of over 8,000 satisfied customers and a 4.7-star average rating, it's clear they're onto something significant.
In this review, I'll walk you through who PeelAways is, what makes their product different, and how you can save with an exclusive 10% discount code at lillydecors when you shop through the link below.
PeelAways was founded in 2014 by entrepreneur and inventor Sean Knecht, who initially developed the concept while grappling with the challenges of keeping bedding clean and hygienic during travel. The first product launched in 2016 and quickly gained traction in healthcare and hospitality settings.
The company later rebranded from its original name, AfreSHeet, to PeelAways to better connect with consumers and reflect the intuitive nature of the product. Under the leadership of founder and CEO Maxwell Cohen, PeelAways appeared on ABC's Shark Tank in 2015 (Season 7, Episode 8), seeking $100,000 for 20% equity. While the deal didn't close, Cohen has since described the experience as the best thing that could have happened for the business, allowing the company to grow on its own terms.
Today, PeelAways holds multiple patents and has raised approximately $2.57 million in funding. The brand was also named 2021 Carer Friendly Product of the Year by Carer.com, cementing its reputation as a trusted solution in the caregiving community.
What Are PeelAways? How the Product Works
At its core, PeelAways is a multi-layer disposable fitted sheet that functions as both a bed sheet and a waterproof mattress protector. Here's how it works:
Each PeelAways set contains 5 to 7 individual layers stacked on top of one another. When the top layer becomes soiled, whether from incontinence, bedwetting, spills, or accidents, you simply peel it away to reveal a fresh, clean sheet underneath. The entire process takes under 60 seconds, with no lifting, no wrestling with corners, and no middle-of-the-night laundry.
The layers are made from an exceptional blend of bamboo, rayon, and polyester fibres, chosen for optimum strength, absorption, and softness. The fitted design keeps the sheets securely in place, and the 100% waterproof barrier protects the mattress beneath.
PeelAways are available in multiple sizes, from crib to king, and each layer is designed to last 7–10 days under normal use, though frequent accidents may require more frequent peeling.
The Key Benefits of PeelAways
1. Dignity and Comfort for the Person in Care
For anyone dealing with incontinence or bedwetting, the experience can feel undignified. PeelAways changes that. The soft, breathable bamboo-blend fabric feels like a regular sheet against the skin, and the waterproof barrier keeps the person dry throughout the night. There's no plastic crinkle, no bulky pads, and no disruption to sleep.
2. Dramatic Time Savings for Carers
Carers consistently report that PeelAways saves them hours of work each week. Instead of stripping, washing, drying, and remaking beds multiple times, they simply peel away the soiled layer and dispose of it. One reviewer shared that PeelAways “make my life as a family carer profoundly easier.” Another note: “I just removed one layer of the PeelAway and went back to sleep. It's wonderful!”
3. 100% Waterproof Mattress Protection
Every PeelAways layer includes a complete waterproof barrier that protects the mattress from moisture, stains, and odours. This means expensive mattresses stay clean and hygienic, even in high-use caregiving situations.
4. Versatile Use Cases Beyond Caregiving
While PeelAways is best known for incontinence care and caregiving, the product's applications extend much further. The brand lists use cases, including:
Potty training for toddlers
Post-surgery recovery for patients with limited mobility
Travel, camping, RVs, and boats
Hospitals, elderly homes, and healthcare facilities
Spas and salons
The waterproof design and easy-peel format make PeelAways a practical solution wherever clean, hygienic bedding is needed.
5. HSA/FSA Eligible
PeelAways products are HSA/FSA eligible, meaning eligible customers can use pre-tax health savings funds to purchase them, a significant financial benefit for carers' ongoing medical expenses.
Real Customer Feedback: What Users Are Saying
PeelAways has accumulated over 278 reviews on its official website, with 209 five-star ratings and a 4.7 out of 5 average score. The overwhelming sentiment from carers is that the product delivers on its promise.
One verified buyer wrote: “PeelAway sheets make life so much easier for patient care and carers. ely a must-have item.”
Another reviewer highlighted the practical benefits: “They are soft and easy to use... just pull off the top layer and put on a clean bottom sheet.”
It's worth noting that not every review is glowing. Some customers have mentioned that the sheets can shift if not secured with sheet clips and that the price point around $30.99–$41.99 per set depending on size and layer count may feel steep for a disposable product. However, PeelAways offers a 30-day money-back guarantee, allowing customers to try the product risk-free.
For carers managing frequent accidents, the math often works out in favour of PeelAways when weighed against the cost of laundry detergent, water, electricity, and most importantly, time.
